Elegant 3d Design & Efficiency.

Well well, I have been busy making a short film with Alan Dunne (or to put it another way not busy at all). We decided to put an extreme lack of planning at the center of this project and just sort of wing it. Our prep work involved 5 min of scribbles in a pub. To look out for: Alan Dunne's earrings are 20c coins sellotaped to his ears. The military arms on my hat are literally 2 cigarettes. My Ford focus is actually not a horse. When Alan is at the window we lost Edward (the cat) so in a brilliant piece of problem solving I suggested to keep stroking as if there was a cat present. If you have seen 'Sommersby' you will know that the central plot is ridiculously funny, which renders this piece of work as something more somber. mmmmmm.

A little girl interprets her local priest's advice as absolution for her murders. This is a black-comedy-horror from the depths of rural Ireland. This was a final year film in DLIADT, Dublin, Ireland. The Priest is played by Michael West and the girl by Lisa McKeon. Created by Alan Eddie in 2000.

Gay had never done a greenscreen shoot before, but once briefed, took it in his stride. It can be difficult when you have to guess at your possible surroundings might be. It was shot by Dave Perry, with makeup by Fiona Hogan. The 'Bullet Time' technique was achieved by rotating Gay on a rented turntable. In creating the 3D and effects, we actually rotate the scene to match Gay's movement. While leaving the virtual camera static, this makes us feel the camera is travelling around Gay. An RTE News promo made a few years ago was a main reference for this technique. First, we edited the greenscreen footage to the track, then we keyed out the green. Then it was simply a case of generating all the imagery and compositing it all together. Perhaps 'simply' was a bad choice of word. We shot footage on camp...

The next time you down a scotch in some bankrupt uppity dump in town, think that there may just be a little bit of me on your lips, ahem. This Jameson glass, I helped design and visualise with Lucas promotions. It was a few years ago but I only come across them ocassionally. We spent time getting the perfect indentation on the sides of the glass. I am particularly proud of this because it ironically compliments my raging scotch and ginger ale addiction. Audrey!

Well hello there! These are 2 Christmas idents based around the centre of Dublin. I technically supervised the shoot (great craic) and produced the f/x and 3d animation. People were curious and friendly until a car blew up outside Penny's - no kidding. They took their camera phones and wandered in that general direction. What is the world coming to when people want to photograph carnage, having said that I got some nice shots of the burning car. We had to wait until the smoke cleared to continue. It's all Christmassy and I really enjoyed working on these with Jim Booth and Conor Cassidy. I have posted a before shot, just to illustrate how threatening Henry St. looked. Thank God for computers. I also sneakily put my name into the ident, picture below. These will be on RTE ONE all over Chrismas 2008.

The aim of this was to extract Peig from an iconic photo, reassemble the scene in 3d and animate the contents as if it was a live shoot. If you look closely I gave her a 3d foot and she is breathing.
